epi- und lithophytisch, auch terrestrisch, in Höhenlagen von 100-3000m. Die Art ist ökologisch recht variabel und kommt in tropisch feuchtem Regenwald, aber auch im prämontanem trockenem, subtropischem Dornenwald sowie in allen Übergangsgebieten vor.

Diese sehr hartlaubige Art ist eine ausgezeichnete, weil sehr anspruchslose Einsteigerpflanze, die aufgrund ihrer gewellten, lederartigen und stark geaderten Blätter ihren Reiz hat. Sie wächst nestartig und ist daher problemlos auch bei kleinem Platzangebot zu kultivieren.
