After Midnight Hydrangea is a compact deciduous shrub with serrated deep dark green leaves without fall color.  Its large lacecap clusters bloom on old wood from summer into fall with color that depends on the soil PH - acidic soils produce purple-blue, while alkaline soils produce dark pink flowers.  The flowers attract butterflies and pollinators.  Best bloom in partial sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Medium Maintenance. Mulch soil to maintain moisture and overwinter.  If pruning is needed do so after flowering. Slight susceptibility to bud blight, wilt, leaf spot, and mildew.  Aphids are occasional problems.
